Notes: Sorry, folks, for not posting in a while.  I was out of town for about a week, and felt like I was getting into a rut, so I thought I’d take a breather for a while.

**EDIT** If you haven’t seen a real calliope before, please do.  They’re quite cool.

Fullscreen AND Widescreen: Steam Train Gears

Posted by Kyle on May 1, 2009

Title: Steam Train Gears

Guest Wallpaper: Widescreen – Steampunk Graffiti by Brad

Posted by Mousewrites on April 15, 2009

Title: Steampunk Graffiti
Description: Brad says “Latest graffiti design using Steampunk style.” This is a pretty cool reimagining of the steampunk style. It’s got a lot of steampunk elements, but is very different from a purely Victorian or classical feel. This is the more subversive side of steampunk. Thanks, Brad!
Type: Widescreen, 1920×1080
Credits:http://www.graffititechnica.com/Graffiti_steampunk.html
License: Brad says “My whole take on the license is do whatever you want, don’t sell it, modify it but link back to original or keep the graffiti tech logo on it.” I’d call that a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported licence.

Also, Brad gave us the PSD to play with! I want remixes, people. Put them in the comments or send them to me. There may be prizes… you never know.

Non-Wallpaper Note: Clockwork and Steam Dinosaurs on ShirtWoot

Posted by Mousewrites on April 10, 2009

Hey all.

Usually I don’t shill for other companies, but I feel that it would be selfish for me NOT to promote this shirt:

Note: THIS IS NOT A WALLPAPER! I don’t have license for this picture to be a wallpaper (or it totally would be.)

Shirt is 10$, and only available today (Friday). EDIT: Shirt is available for 15$ as long as it lasts! (Thanks, Leon!)

I don’t have anything to do with Shirt Woot, btw. Just sharing the love. 😉

Non-Wallpaper Note: website display issue?

Posted by Mousewrites on April 6, 2009

Hey, all. Kyle is reporting some weird behavior: the website seems to be ‘double’ on some computers. Please let me know if the website ‘starts over’ at the bottom of the page. If this is something a lot of people are seeing, then it might be the source of the persistent site slowness.

If you ARE seeing it, can you drop a comment with your browser type in the post? I’m going to try to get this quantified and fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks all!

Mouse

[poll id=”4″]

EDIT: Wow. Looks like a lot of you are seeing this. Ironically, as soon as I posted the poll, the same behavior started happening for me. I’ll dig into it, see what’s going on. I’d still appreciate comments; more symptoms = better diagnosis.

Thanks all!

EDIT 2: Looks like Patch may have figured it out. I had the WP-cache module turned on to try to speed the site up; it was the cached pages that were showing up so oddly. If you read this, please try reloading the page and tell me if you are still getting the problem. I’ve put a new option up in that poll. 😀

Brass Goggles on Blue

Title: Brass Goggles on Blue

Hi everyone!

Mouse has decided to take me on as an apprentice SteampunkWallpaper-er! I only hope I can be useful enough to merit it (and not mess everything up too bad :-? ). But please, if you see anything I can improve on, let me know. Feedback is welcome, good or bad.

Anyway, this one’s pretty much just an extended version of this photo:

Non-wallpaper note: Top news: Website turns into ghost town!

Posted by Mousewrites on April 3, 2009

For the last (however many days are between the 23rd and now) days, as readers around the globe have visited the famous website steampunkwallpaper.com, they have been shocked to find that there have been no updates.  We interviewed numerous people in our pursuit of the culprit behind this tragedy.  Kyle, a frequent viewer, had this to say:

“It was horrible!  I’ve visited (on average) at least 4.675^2 times per day, only to find nothing!  I’ve almost lost all hope!”

Orville Eugene Dingleheimer, of Boston, MA said this:

“Every day, I used to check the website to see if there was any new eye candy for my desktop.  I would organize and reorganize my icons to fit into those nice little boxes.  Ever since the updates stopped, my desktop has devolved into total chaos!  Program icons here, folders there, just strewn around in such a haphazard manner, I sometimes question my own sanity!”

We also interviewed one grouchy old man, just for good measure:

“These young whippersnappers and their ‘websites’!  The internet will die someday, mark my words!”

The website’s owner, a lady by the name of “Mouse”, was unavailable for comment.  In fact, no one has heard from her for days.  A search and rescue squad has been dispatched, but so far they have turned up nothing.  But, that could also be because they’ve been looking in Argentina, on top of the fact that they’ve been looking for her using cheese as bait.

Our only hope now is that someone out there will read this news story and be able to locate Mouse, wherever she may be, and pass the word on of this tragedy.  The fate of the world depends on it!

And that, my friends, is the intro to a new editor, Kyle! Kyle has been awesome about lighting a fire under my butt… and now he can skip the fire and my butt and post himself!

Now you’ve got three editors: myself (mouse), Koutetsu Kaigun, and Kyle. Hm, maybe I should change my name to start with K….
