Gear brushes used in my pictures are from several people. Unfortunately, I've lost the credit file of who all of those people are.
Annnnd we’re back. Still working on the novel (no, i didn’t get to 50,000 words. 🙁 ) but I’m back doing wallpaper. May be a few hicups in posting (been a while) but I expect to get back on track.
A few of you sent me wallpapers that I didn’t post during November; this is ALL my fault. Got so wrapped up in writing that I forgot to post at all. They’ll be making their appearances this week.
Oh, Steampunkwallpaper.com, How I’ve missed you! :: hugs the site::
Title: Bucolic Description: Found this great picture of farmland. I’ve only added a little tiny bit of stuff… most of the credit goes to the original photographer, and, of course, the farmers. Type: Widescreen, 1680×1050 Credits: Based off the picture by tkieft, with an airship by miss insomnia tulip. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Title: Zeppelins at the Gasworks Description: Ivan Sez: “I ’ve had this idea for a couple of days now. Just north of downtown Seattle is the Gas Works Park. It has a some really cool old industrial equipment. I’ve also been following the Steampunk Wallpaper blog. Combining these ideas, I thought the gas works park would make some pretty cool steampunk. All I needed was something to make it more interesting. The obvious choice was airships.
Enter Flickr. A couple of searches turned up a great photo ofgas work park, and a couple of zeppelins. Some time spent with Gimp and I had something looking pretty decent. I still needed that antique paper look, though. This time Deviant Art turned up a great old paper I could overlay as a texture.”
Type: Widescreen, 1440×900 Credit goes to the orginator, Ivan
Title: All Hallows’ Eve, and the lamps are lit. Description: Wanted something orange and black for my desktop this week. Type: Fullscreen, 1280×1024 Credits: Based off the picture by pietroizzo. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Today marks the last of the daily wallpapers until December, as I’ll be working on my Steampunk NaNoWriMo project. 50,000 words, baBEY. Here I come. I’ll be tracking progress (and by that I mean you can watch me go insane) at my personal journal: Geekery Abounds. (and yes, I know I haven’t posted much there. This website took all my time. )
Look for periodic updates in November, including guest wallpapers, links, and some Special Things I’ve Got Up My Sleeve For You People.
Remember, if you want to contribute, you can use the Submit a Wallpaper link up top. I have a few beauties people have contribuited over the last two weeks to throw at you in November.
Fellow NaNoer’s, good luck! Everyone else… Here we go!
1680×1050
Title: Race the Turkey! Description: This is an awesome modification of Left Watch that adds in the NaNoWriMo goal calendar to the blotter. The neat person behind Single Stitch Studios took advantage of the Creative Commons license and modified it, and I did too (I made it slightly bigger than her version, which was 1024×640.) Type: Widescreen, 1680×1050 Credits: Based off the picture by Amanda Potter. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Title: Recent Advances In Sewing Machinery Description: My roommate got dual monitors, so I made her a present. Those of you with dual monitors, please try this out an let me know how it looks. Type: Fullscreen, dual monitor, 2560×1024 Credits: Based off the ebook by posted by Project Gutenberg. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Title: Excerpt 3 Description: More excerpts from Scientific American Supplement, this one No. 514, November 7, 1885. I’m learning a boatload from reading these things. Type: Fullscreen, 1280×1024 Credits: Based off the ebook by posted by Project Gutenberg. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Title: Clockstreet Grunge Abstract widescreen Description: Widescreen version of the fullscreen version, by request. Yes, it’s slightly different: I didn’t want to distort it for obvious reasons, and the ‘black bar’ effect is so 1997. Type: Widescreen: 1680×1050 Credits: Based off the picture by Alex Balan. Creative Commons licensed derivative.NOTE: Some people have pointed out that the roman numarals on the clock are wrong, specifically the 4.
“Originally, it was common to use IIII to represent four, because IV represented the Roman godJupiter, whose Latin name, IVPPITER, begins with IV. The subtractive notation (which uses IV instead of IIII) has become universally used only in modern times.”
Also had to do with how many molds a clockmaker needed: with 4 as IIII, the clockmaker only needed 1 mold that could be broken apart in different ways to get all the numerals for the clock: VIIIIIX
Title: Clockstreet Grunge Abstract Description: I dunno. I’m battin about 3/5 with my last couple, but I’m still gearing up for NaNoWriMo, so I’m distracted. Type: Fullscreen, 1280×1024 Credits: Based off the picture by Alex Balan. Creative Commons licensed derivative.

Title: Excerpt from Scientific American Supplement No. 819 Description: Scientific American has so much awesome stuff in it. This one is from September 12, 1891. Type: Fullscreen, 1280×1024 Credits: Based off the e book made available by Project Gutenberg. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Title: The Horseshoe Crabs Description: Tribute to the locket on Girl Genius. The Foglios have a way with putting in tiny details that make things so much more interesting. While they are Gaslamp Fantsy, and not steampunk (as they say), I adore their work. Type: Fullscreen, 1280×1024 Credits: Based off the picture by Haeckel. Creative Commons licensed artwork. The original is in the public domain. Lucky us!
EDIT: Thank you to Cthulu who pointed out that this was fullscreen, not the widescreen I said it was. I blame, uh… sleep dep.
Title: Grand Bazaar Description: Fullscreen version of Grand Bazaar. Type: Fullscreen, 1280×1024 Credits: Based off the picture by Curious Expeditions. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Title: Grand Bizaar 2 Description: Another amazing photo by Curious Expeditions. Go show them some love, people! Type: Widescreen, 1680×1050 Credits: Based off the picture by Curious Expeditions. Creative Commons licensed derivative.
Next month is NaNoWriMo, the National Novel Writing Month, in which I, and about 100,000 other people attempt to crank out 50,000 words in one month. This takes up a HUGE part of my time, but it’s something that is very, very good for me.
What this means is that I won’t have time for a daily wallpaper next month. Instead, I’ll be putting up guest wallpapers, profileing other artists, and featuring websites. Some are going to be steampunk, some graphic design.
Call for Submissions! Use the new “Submit A Wallpaper/Link/Comment” form, found at the top of the page. I get approximatly 2,000 hits a day, so it’s a way to get some likeminded people, submit your website or design.
Added a “Share This” tag for every post. I will reskin the button later.
Multiple services are available in the share this box. Let me know what you all think. I chose this one because it’s not as intrusive as some others, but still easy to get to.
